THE BEAUTY OF MASSAGE. *image credits to buyagift.com and beautyheaven.com.au
Massage is great for everyone, and is suitable for all skin-types. You should massage your face at least twice a week and after cleansing. It helps to de-stress, promote healthy and glowing looking skin, and it can also help to tone and strengthen your facial muscles, firming your facial contours.
Other benefits of facial massage include: - loosening and softening the dead skin cells on the epidermis allowing them to shed, which allows the newer cells to grow. This improves the appearance of the skin.
- as you are massaging, the muscles on your face get improved oxygenated blood supply which is essential for cell growth.
- facial massage increases the blood circulation and warms the tissues of your skin- which improves your skin tone. This is especially good for those with dull or tired looking skin.
- it stimulates the sebacceous (sebum) and sudoriferous (sweat) glands to increase more sebum and sweat and to help maintain the skin's NMF (natural moisturizing factor.)
- the lymphatic circulation increases. Our lymphatic system is responsible for the removal of waste and toxins of our body which in turn helps to purify the skin.
- the increased temperature of the skin from facial massage relaxes the pores and follicles which allows a good absorption of the massage product, softening the skin.
BODY, MIND, AND SOUL. Your massage should take approximately ten minutes. Facial massage should be a relaxing ritual. Set yourself a comfortable environment by playing relaxing music, or even lighting scented candles and essential oils. Classical music can help free the mind from stress, and aromatherapy scents like Lavender help to calm and soothe the soul.
I also would like to suggest doing a facial massage while you're in the bathtub- which is great for those with dry skin. The steam gives your face a light steaming treatment as you are massaging at the same time. Make sure you leave the door open as it might get a bit stuffy.
There are five classical movements in facial massage; Effleurage, Petrissage, Pinchment, Percussion (tapotement), and Vibrations.
I have included these in my tutorial video on how to do a self massage.
SELF-MASSAGE.
I apologise that there are some parts of this video where the background is slightly noisy. Some friends came round today to have a good few rounds of mahjong. Hm!
MASSAGE PRODUCTS. There are many massage products on the market today. Some help to promote firming, which contain ingredients to absorb the water levels on your skin- making it look less 'puffy.'
Here is my top pick.
Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Wrap.
The Clarin's Shaping Facial Lift Wrap helps to refine the facial contours. It was originally designed as a beauty treatment for those who were concerned about their face being too "round," or for those who would like their face to look visibly slimmer. It helps to define areas on the cheeks, jawline, and under the chin- promoting a 'slimmer' face.
How does it work? With ingredients such as Chinese Barley and Gingko extracts, it helps to eliminate puffiness to give more refined features of the face by draining excess water and toxins.
Of course, this product cannot work without the power of massage. This product was designed to be applied by massaging for ten minutes. Not only is it one of Clarin's best-sellers, but in Asia, Angelababy modelled for this product, and within days- the public went crazy.
So does it work? Yes. If you do want to see immediate results, do this everyday in the morning and night. Continuous application will help to keep a slimmer face.
I say the only downside to this product is the smell. It is terrible, but hey, it does it's job and you might like it.
To be honest with you, apart from the Clarin's Facial Lifting Wrap and a few other good brands, don't bother investing in a massage product unless you really need it. Use your facial mask instead.
Choose a facial mask that gives a good boost of moisture and hydration, and you can use the excess 'juice' from it for massaging onto your face.
